Well the girls at work were all raving about these dance aerobic classes they were all going to and how I should come along too.
Though they were politely trying not to imply that it was quite obvious that a few extra kilos had snuk on while I hadn’t noticed, my partner was not quite so discreet and was constantly reminding me that it was very evident that I must have been overindulging in potatoes or rice or chocolate or actually anything that had lots of carbs in it, (his way of politely saying you’re looking quite fat, love!) Okay, so I got the message and decided that it could be potentially fun as well as great exercise.
So I turned up one evening and not one single one of the girls from work was actually there, which made me wonder if they had ever really turned up and had my husband actually been asking them to encourage me to go, on the sly. None the less I decided to stay. I mean I did spend a good 45 minutes trying to work out which aerobic outfit to wear and was looking all colour coordinated with a matching headband and shoelaces. And it was quite a daunting task trying on all the different styles that I had at home that all still had their tags on them and were all ready for the day that I became an aerobic instructor. This day wouldn’t be too near in the future, but it was definitely there in my later on in life plan. Actually now that I think about it when I was ready to become an aerobic instructor I most likely wouldn’t be the same shape that I am now, so that probably wasn’t the wisest of investments, but at least I would look the part for the lesson tonight.
I was a little early, actually I was late for the class I intended to go to which consequently made me early for the next one and gave me a few moments to enjoy the actual sensation of being early. I wandered past the classes that were happening and definitely decided to attend the advanced class as the music was so much better as compared to the beginner or intermediate class and surely there couldn’t be too much difference.
Great, my class was about to start and as I was a little self conscious, I created my own row at the very back.
Suddenly things were in full action and wow everyone seemed to know exactly what to do. Hang on it seemed as though I had joined the national Olympic training session. How fit and flexible and coordinated were this group of people? Wasn’t the whole idea of these kinds of classes to be that a whole group of slightly bigger than average regular not looking so hot in a leotard people got together so no one felt intimidated by slim taunt obviously professional looking athletes. And how complicated was the routine, bloody hell! They looked like they’d give the river dancers a real run for their money and heck sweat was dripping off my forehead just watching them. And certainly they’d all worked up a sweat of which there was no sign of; mmm they must have all been using some super deodorant of which I’d need to get the name of. Anyway I wasn’t about to waste my money so I thought I’d make up some of my own dance movements and do my own thing, luckily I knew the songs. And actually I was quite enjoying myself and at least my outfit looked good, I noticed as I caught a glimpse of myself in the huge mirror on the side, forgetting that it was two way glass enabling passersby’s to watch the class.
All was going fine until….. the instructor told everyone to turn around and face the back, which made mine the new front row………..
