Absolutely chaotic and totally hectic day in the pharmacy; just me and Evan and 500 customers; all 6 phone lines ringing, delivery drivers constantly dumping copious boxes of stock in the already restricted walkways, coffee has gone cold. You call; perfect timing, well not exactly as there are still 437 customers queuing to speak to me, 4 people on hold on other phone calls, people waiting for passport photos, some documents needing to be witnessed…..and I’m busting to go to the loo.
Finally a breather in the craziness, desperate to hear your voice, now I can’t find my phone. I try ringing it, no sound… it’s either on silent or doing that thing it very frequently does…..absolutely nothing!!!
Great now I can only call my mum as I haven’t memorised any other numbers, need the valuable brain space for fantasizing and stuff. Mmm, an idea, I’ll retrieve your number from an email; unbelievable my internet has crashed. Gosh I know there’s a 6 close to the end and a 4 somewhere else, but not that helpful. So I pop into a few other shops until I find one with internet access, and I check my mail, gosh it’s been pages and pages since you sent one, finally I find your number. Very clever of you to include that on your email.
So we squeeze in a quick chat and I get my daughter’s number, (which ends up being an old one), shop has filled up again and I realise that my dress is inside out so I pull it off and get tangled up in the process and sprung by Evan, but he doesn’t bat an eyelid as he’s used to it and besides has seen me in less.
Interrupted by an urgent call from my sister bearing bad news. She went with mum to collect mum’s car and expressed her lack of confidence in her driving skills and ability to avoid my letterbox so mum offered to reverse car and consequently completely annihilated and smashed into a million concrete pieces my letterbox herself. Gosh I hope the postie had been, otherwise where would he put my mail, then again, if he has, I hope it’s retrievable. I guess it’s easy to see where I get my very precise driving skills from; we never miss a thing and now her little bumps completely match mine.
Phone rings again, actually hasn’t stopped, it’s my son, he needs me to ring his phone coz he’s lost it; “sorry darling I don’t know your phone number, what is it?” “Don’t know it either mum,”…………Gee chip off the old block.
